What does a green energy company and an acclaimed independent beauty brand have in common? Well, following our recent People’s Energy x Lucky Cloud Skincare competition with ethical publication The Green Parent, it appears our paths are more closely aligned that we first imagined.
Following a record breaking competition that saw one lucky winner take home a free month of gas and electricity from the UK’s first crowdfunded energy (that’ll be us) company and a £50 luxury hamper, we sat down with Lucy Cardwell, Founder of Edinburgh based company Lucky Cloud Skincare to talk all things ethical business and recharging your energy.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hiya, I’m Lucy *waves*
I’m originally from Adelaide, Australia and moved to Edinburgh in 2008 and after a good few years of falling in love with Scotland I launched Lucky Cloud. At the time I was still working full time at an events company but after a few years of research and product development it was time to get out there.
So, what is Lucky Cloud you might be asking?
Okay, here’s the spiel:
It’s a brand of luxurious botanical skincare for people with dry, damaged and sensitive skin. Vegan friendly and made by hand in small batches I use quality raw ingredients to create moisture rich, nourishing and soothing products.
Each product is formulated in house using natural, ethically sourced ingredients so we can offer you effective skincare that’s easy to use and good for your mind, body and soul… and the environment too of course!
The range includes body moisturisers, lip balms and an incredibly popular face care collection all of which are free from parabens, formaldehydes, SLS, mineral oils, animal ingredients and animal testing.
It’s important that my business is kind to people and planet so I’m chuffed to see how it’s really taken off since it’s inception in 2015.
What helps you to recharge and re-energise after a long day?
I love being able to zone out with a good box-set at home, especially as the weather gets cooler. Or cosying up on the couch with a blanket, glass of wine and a good book is ideal
What was your vision when creating Lucky Cloud Skincare?
Lucky Cloud Skincare was born out of my own issues with sensitive and dry skin. I’d suffered from skin conditions like dermatitis from a young age and was quite reliant on steroid ointments. Because of this I’ve always had an interest in skincare and skin health, but never really understood it. Until that is, I started researching ingredients and developing products for LCS.
If you could have one superpower to change the world for good what would it be?
Ooh, good question! I guess it would be healing people; how amazing would that be. I get goosebumps just thinking about having the power to heal people, it’s almost like your own slice of magic or healing hands.
Lastly, who are the people that help you make great things happen each day.
I run Lucky Cloud Skincare on my own, so I’d have to say that it’s my friends and family who help me make great things happen each day. With a special shout out to my partner; who is a constant and incredible stream of support both physically and emotionally.
As an ethical energy supplier that puts the power back in the hands of the people we couldn’t agree more wholeheartedly with Lucy’s mission to make great things happen every day.
